Speech and language assessment at Sophiahemmet and Globen
We accept children and adolescents up to 18 years of age for speech and language assessment of reading, writing and language difficulties. We also accept children with dual diagnoses, such as ADHD and dyslexia. We do not offer speech therapy.
Our speech and language pathologists have extensive experience and solid expertise in language, reading and writing in children and young people.
How a speech and language assessment works
- A referral from the child’s school is required to see a speech and language therapist.
- The assessment takes place during one or two visits for a total of approximately 4 hours. The speech and language pathologist asks questions about reading, writing and other things that are relevant for the assessment. A guardian is present during the conversation. The speech and language pathologist then tests the child’s reading, writing and language skills.
- When the testing is complete, the speech therapist reviews the results and any potential diagnosis with the child and accompanying parent. If a neuropsychiatric assessment has also been conducted at Martina Children’s Hospital, the feedback can be given together with the assessing psychologist.
- A written statement will be sent to the patient by post. The school is offered the opportunity to book a meeting to review the assessment results and recommendations. If needed, a visit will also be booked to try out compensatory aids.

Information about referrals
For questions relating only to dyslexia and/or language impairment, the referral should be sent to Martina Logopedi Globen or Martina Logopedi Sophiahemmet.
In case of a dual issue (e.g., ADHD and dyslexia), two separate referrals should be sent: one to Martina pediatric clinic and one to Martina Logopedi. Both referrals should be sent to the same clinic, either Globen or Sophiahemmet. Please be sure to indicate that it concerns a dual issue in both referrals.
