ADHD Assessment

Welcome to Martina’s ADHD clinic. As part of our pediatric outpatient clinic services, we assess children (14-17 years old) born in 2011 or earlier for ADHD. Younger children are assessed by Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (BUP).

Our ADHD team consists of experienced child psychiatrists, pediatric nurses, and child psychologists.

If there are indications of more severe psychiatric issues or questions regarding the autism spectrum, the assessment is instead conducted by Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (BUP). We also provide pharmacological treatment for ADHD. We medicate children between 6-17 years old for ADHD who have been assessed at our clinic.

How an ADHD assessment is conducted

For your child to come to us, you need to contact your child’s school. They will then send a referral from the school doctor to us. Once we have received the referral, you will be placed on our waiting list and will be seen as soon as possible.

During the assessment, you will meet with a pediatrician / child psychiatrist and a child psychologist. During these visits, you will go through your child’s developmental history, current situation, and make an assessment of your child’s strengths and challenges.

After this visit, you will meet with a psychologist who will assess your child’s strengths and weaknesses. During the course of the assessment, you as a parent will also fill out a series of forms regarding your child’s functioning. The psychologist will also contact the school to get a picture of how your child’s schooling looks and what difficulties/strengths exist in the school environment. After all the material has been collected, the psychologist and doctor discuss what has emerged and arrive at a possible diagnosis and recommendations. If necessary, the assessment may also need to be supplemented with other elements.

If necessary, the assessment may also need to be supplemented with other elements. As a parent, you will then receive a review of the assessment from the psychologist. Feedback to the child and school is included.

After the course of the assessment, continued contact with our clinic may be relevant, for example for medication or psychological support for the child and/or parents.
